About the Association

Kin, not a club.

We are MacLachlans, MacEwens and Gilchrists — and the people who love them — keeping a Highland family together on this side of the Atlantic.

Who we are

The Clan MacLachlan Association of North America, Inc. (CMANA) is a non-profit corporation run entirely by volunteers. We are one of the autonomous branches of the Clan Maclachlan Society, the worldwide federation that links MacLachlan families in North America, Britain and Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and beyond.

Our members live across the United States and Canada. Some can trace their line to a single parish on Loch Fyne. Others just found out last summer that “McLaughlin” was on the list. Both are equally welcome.

What we do

Preserve

Our history

We collect and share the history, genealogy and legends of Clan MacLachlan and its families, so they are not lost to the next generation.

Gather

Our people

Volunteer conveners host the MacLachlan tent at Highland games and Celtic festivals, and we meet each year at our Annual General Meeting.

Connect

Our family

We link North American MacLachlans with the Chief, Castle Lachlan, and our cousins in the worldwide Clan Maclachlan Society.

Our objectives

As set out by the Association, our objectives are:

  • to promote the general interest of the Clan and to cultivate the spirit of kinship and fellowship among its members throughout the world;

  • to generate, collect and preserve literary, historical and genealogical records, documents and relics relating to the Clan and to Scotland;

  • to honor our Scottish heritage and to cultivate among our members and descendants the pride and spirit of our Scottish ancestors.

Who can join? Anyone descended from a MacLachlan (in any spelling), a Gilchrist, or a MacEwen, along with their spouses and families. Friends of the clan without MacLachlan ancestry are welcome too. One membership covers everyone, at $35 a year. Join the clan →
